Hello and welcome to another fun installment of CFRC 101.9 FM’s Airwave YGK Musicians-in-Residence programming featuring an interview with Malobi Eleume of Sam the Band who joined us in our studios on June 15th and 16th to create new music, do an interview with us and perform their newly created work LIVE on our airwaves.
Sam the Band is a group of musical sisters who’ve played family reunions, campus stages, open mics, and various arts festivals. They’ve built their sound DIY style using instruments, voices, laptops, and Garageband with the assistance of Youtube tutorials to make the magic happen. Their sound is fluid and rooted in the sounds they grew up with in Lagos, Nigeria and eventually Canada when they arrived as teenagers and remains soulful and grounding as it moves through R&B, Afrobeats, neo-soul and Pop. One of these sisters, Malobi joined us for a solo residency and you’ll get to hear about her work through her conversation with CFRC’s own Genavieve Hinch followed by her outstanding live in studio performance using a portable Harp, midi keyboard, djembe drum, a loop pedal and a Pioneer DDJ Controller.
Thank you for joining us, we hope you enjoy the program!
Airwave YGK is made possible through the generous support of the City of Kingston and Kingston Arts Council.
