Welcome to a fresh new season of CFRC’s Airwave YGK programming!  We’re very excited to present the first artist joining the station for this year’s Airwave YGK Musicians-in-Residence programming!

In this Airwave YGK podcast, host Dinah Jansen sits down with our first Musician-in-Residence Kyra Daniel for a frankly outstanding conversation with this brilliant young local artist.   At 16-years-old, Kyra is currently a Grade 11 student at Holy Cross Secondary who will surprise you with how HUGE she is in the music world already.  From her, we learn much about her work as a Mini-Pop undertaking two North American tours, her work singing anthems for the Toronto Raptors, the Toronto Football Club and even the 2024 NBA All Star Rising Stars Game in Indianapolis, in addition to competing on Canada’s Got Talent.

Through the conversation, which precedes her live studio performance on April 7th 2026 you can also access here, you will learn a lot about the art of combining song and dance commonly associated with megastar performances (ie: Kyra’s favorite: Beyoncé!), how she got her start, and how she perservered through the learning, the training, the travel, and of course, the pandemic when she was still very much a young kid.

On April 6th and 7th 2026, Kyra is using CFRC’s primary studio as an incubator space to create new music mobilizing her powerful voice and her keys which she’ll perform live on air and develop further in the future.  It’s our pleasure to welcome her to our studios and our airwaves and podcasts and we hope you enjoy this conversation and her performance!
