Coming up on this special Community Takeover of our airwaves, we’re talking to Tom Stewart, Board Chair and founder of Homegrown Live,  and Denis Leroux, President of the Joe’s Music Mill Board of Directors. HomeGrown Live Music Productions was founded in 2008 with a mission to facilitate community understanding and appreciation of live music, produce music festivals, showcases, and workshops and promote the community development of music and musicians. That same year, they launched the inaugural HomeGrown Live Music Festival as a celebration of live music in Kingston, and a fundraiser for the Joe Chithalen Memorial Musical Instrument Lending Library (Joe’s M.I.L.L.). Incorporated as a non-profit in 2013, HomeGrown Live Music Productions has organized 17 festivals and over 1,400 performances, raising more than $140,000 in support of Joe’s M.I.L.L., as well as food donations in support of the Partners In Mission Foodbank. Joe’s Music Mill is here to help everyone unlock the potential and benefits that music can bring to their lives and to their communities by putting the ability to play music directly into their hands. They offer a diverse library of quality music instruments that span across all musical styles and tastes. They bring music, education and mentorship through partnerships with schools and community programs, and strive to build effective, sustainable and lasting bridges to all communities that can benefit from Joe’s Mill.
