This week marks a century of Fire Prevention Week. Kingston Fire & Rescue have a series of local events. Today, firefighters and prevention staff will run fire drills at avrious schools, Tomorrow Sparky The Fire Dog will be on Transit Buses and will be visiting Cataraqui Town Centre on Friday morning.
Delbert Blakney, Fire Inspector with KFR says “During a fire you only have a minute or two to escape. When the smoke alarm sounds or fire is discovered you must escape quickly.”
According to a release KFR is challenging Kingstonians to plan a record-breaking escape! There will also be various Open Houses, with opportunities to meet firefighters and learn about opportunities to become a volunteer firefighter.
The participants of the second edition of the Music Video Initiative have been announced. The project is a partnership between THe Kingston Film Office, a division of Tourism Kingston and the Kingston Canadian Film Festival. Local production companies are paired with local performers to create music videos. The pairings include: Happy Kid Productions working with Luella, Jamstone Productions working with KaKaow, Outpost12 + Visual Menace working with Kasador, QR the Band working with Michael George and Abby Stewart and YourTV working with Hayley.
Music Commissioner with Tourism Kingston Moira Demorest says, “The goal of the project is to facilitate hands-on development opportunities for producers and musicians to strengthen our local industries. It also supports two priority areas identified in the City’s Creative Industry Strategy: film and music.”
Each team receives $2,000 from the Kingston Film Office and the Kingston Canadian Film Festival, with the videos set to premiere at the 2023 Kingston Canadian Film Festival. Workshops are also provided to offer additional support.
The City of Kingston in partnership with United Way will host Wheels on the Runway, at YGK Airport next Saturday October 22nd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is an open house that will give community members the chance to see the airport’s newly upgraded amenities and to Learn more about the United Way. Volunteers will be on hand to guide visitors. Donations to the United Way will be accepted at the entrance.
